Taylor Ward (Tameside)
We are a 22-bedded adult acute in-patient ward for females between the ages of 18-65.

You will have your own bedrooms with en-suite facilities. We provide assessment, care and treatment for a variety of mental health needs.

You will be admitted via A & E assessments, Mental Health Act assessments at the home, referrals from the access and liaison team, home treatment team or from outpatient clinics.

This can be due to experiencing a deterioration in your mental health, relapse of a mental health illness or at times of crisis (relating to mental health issues).

We provide 24 hour care, with a team of health professionals including: Nursing staff, medical staff, an occupational therapist and a recovery and inclusion worker. We also have a psychologist working with us to support the nursing staff in their day to day practice and to support you with your recovery.

We offer a variety of treatment and interventions including:

  • Medication
  • Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT)
  • Regular 1-1 support from a named nurse, to plan and evaluate care (including discharge planning)
  • Physical health screening
  • A programme of meaningful and enjoyable ward-based activities

Our activities enable you to build on current skills, learn new skills and can be a distraction from symptoms, as well as a sociable experience.

We also offer an occupational therapy (OT) service.  Our OT works with you to assess how mental illness impacts on your ability to function in everyday occupations and roles; helping to maximise your independence.  They also aim to help you to recover and prevent re-admission to hospital.

A recovery and inclusion worker links the recovery work carried out on the ward with the social inclusion aspect of your overall care.  This could include support to engage in meaningful activities in the community or home visits to sort out important issues.

We also offer housing, welfare rights and advocacy drop in sessions on the ward.
