The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Some links only appear visually distinct from regular text by colour. We are working to make them all more visually distinct.
Some controls, including links, buttons, and fields, don’t currently show when they have been selected by the keyboard. We are working on this.
Some text doesn’t have sufficient contrast, but this can be adjusted by using the accessibility toolbar which pops up on every page.
Some lists aren’t optimised so screen readers can accurately report the amount of items contained in the list. We are working on this.
Navigation and accessing information
There’s no way to skip all the sub headings under each page header, or to skip to ‘main content’.
Interactive tools and transactions
Some of our interactive forms are difficult to navigate using a keyboard. For example, because some form controls are missing a ‘label’ tag.
These forms are built and hosted by a third party.
We believe that fixing the issues would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will review this as part of our annual website improvement and hosting.
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents.
Many of these are referral forms for other health professionals, or are intended to be printed out and worked through as part of an activity.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix our old annual report documents.
We aim to meet accessibility standards with any new PDFs or Word documents we publish where possible. Please contact communications.penninecare@nhs.net if you need a document in a different format.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
