As it’s Carers Week (10 – 16 June), we want to send a message to carers – you underpin the NHS and we couldn’t do it without you.
That’s why we’ve made a pledge to involve carers in decisions about their loved ones. As a result we’ve received the nationally recognised Triangle of Care accreditation. Click here to find out more about that or click here to watch a short video.
There are 6.5 million people in the UK who look after a family member or friend with a disability, mental or physical illness, or who just needs extra support.
It can be hugely rewarding but also has its challenges; it can put a strain on relationships, finances and often personal health.
Carers UK have pulled together lots of advice to help you with many aspects of caring for someone at: www.carersuk.org
During the week we’re running a number of events for carers:
Rowan and Cedar Ward (Parklands House), Royal Oldham Hospital
Lots of visitors are coming throughout to run activities to support carer’s wellbeing.
This including free health screenings, mindfulness, reiki and relaxations sessions, hand massages, nail art, arm chair exercises and free healthy snacks.
Whittaker Day Hospital, Tameside General Hospital
On Friday 14th, from 2-3pm, our staff have invited lots of services along to share information on the support available for older and vulnerable people in the community.
This includes Tameside community response service, Stockport and Tameside community fire team, and information from GMP about the Herbert Protocol.
They will also be showing people around the unit and providing an afternoon tea.
