Our teams in Tameside and Glossop have been terrific during the pandemic and we’re so proud.
We want to say a Great Big Thank You to all of our teams in the borough, including our adult and older people's mental health, child and adolescent mental health, learning disability, rehab and high support and corporate services. And not forgetting those who provide vital support, including our maintenance and domestic staff and our porters.
They are all superstars!
Here are some gems from over the last few months:
Nina Phythian has lost over 3 stones (20kg) in a year, thanks to support from Be Well Tameside.
Nina, 55, from Denton, reached out for one-to-one support after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic.
The team gave Nina guidance on nutritional information, portion sizes and sugar content in food and drinks. They also suggested some changes to her diet and how much she exercises.
Now Nina is no longer in the pre-diabetic range, and attends the gym five days a week:
“People are starting to notice and say how well I look, which is a great confidence boost.
This is all down to the total support and encouragement I’ve received from Be Well Tameside. I feel 10 years younger.”
Sophie Coleman, trainee psychologist with our Tameside learning disability team, has developed animated videos to help people who are feeling anxious.
Sophie’s practical advice was brought to life thanks to animators from The University of Manchester.
Part one has information about anxiety and why we get anxious.
Part two has a few practical exercises known to start the body’s ‘soothing system’, which can help with anxiety.
Tameside and Glossop early attachment service are now on Facebook to link up with families who would usually attend their groups.
The team offer support during pregnancy and until a child is 5, to build strong relationships so children feel safe, secure and happy.

Colleagues at Tameside General Hospital were treated to some knitted gifts to show how much they were appreciated during the pandemic.
Tracey Kelsall, a domestic on Tatton Unit, kept herself super busy making NHS teddy bears for the team. The cuddly companions put a huge smile on the teams’ faces.
While Suzanne Rhodes, charge nurse on Taylor Ward, secretly asked her mother-in-law to create individual ‘mini-me’ gifts for her team.
Terrie Mitchell (pictured), charge nurse, was over the moon to receive hers.
Talented colleagues at Summers Ward, at Tameside General Hospital, joined with patients to paint these giant murals of Batman and Robin on the ward windows.
The paintings proved so popular that more have been added since.
